This event, held on September 3, 2017, was a moving and memorable tribute to the 88 men who perished at the Battle of Groton Heights on September 6, 1781. Many thanks to all who made this event a success.
This was the first time the Coast Guard’s Guardians Big Band performed at the fort, and it was an absolutely perfect evening. The music was fantastic, the weather was gorgeous, and visitors had a lot of fun!
The sledding is always best at Fort Griswold just after a good storm. The key is to dress warmly, and prepare for the long walk up the hill between rides.
Images from our December 10, 2016 open house and bonfire. The event included tours of the fort, a carol sing led by members of the Groton Congregational Church, free admission to the museum and monument, and marshmallows roasted over a cheery bonfire.
